Conclusion
So, there it is. Hollywood’s
Romance with the Tobacco Industry Exposed. Tobacco companies
are masters of manipulation. These are the same people who
testified, before Congress, that nicotine was not addictive
while their own research showed otherwise. They also denied
any involvement in product placement in the ’80s. But
then, in 1998, we found that various tobacco companies had
contracts and agreements with Hollywood studios and PR firms
pushing them to place products in films! Can we really believe
what we hear from Big Tobacco? And remember when we told you
about how other products and companies spend millions of dollars
placing their own product in films? Well, think about it again.
Why would Hollywood charge Burger King $15 million dollars
to include its products in MIB
II but include numerous product appearances for Marlboro
for free? That’s a really good question. We have to
keep digging to find answers. You may not find any documents
proving that they still actively seek tobacco placements in
films, however, the truth remains: tobacco use in films has
skyrocketed. And why, even after so many years of knowing
that nicotine is addictive and that tobacco kills 400,000
American smokers and 53,000 non-smokers – and 4 million
people worldwide – every year, 42
is Hollywood still addicted to Big Tobacco’s schemes?
Is Big Tobacco the real Hollywood player?
Yes, but now it’s time to break up the romance. Instead
of just looking at smoking as something normal you are now
exposed to the truth.
